TELOS - Baseball Literature: Boys and Girls of Summer

The cry of “PLAY BALL!” signals summertime all over America, and no other sport has so captured the minds and hearts of American writers. We’ll take a lively look at some of the well-known and perhaps lesser-known stories, novels, memoirs and poems about the great American pastime from “Casey at the Bat” to “Moneyball.”
We’ll consider why writers love baseball so much and what connects them. We’ll also talk about our own favorite books and baseball stories. Students will have the opportunity (optional) to write a short piece or poem about baseball to share with the class.

Molly Cook has an M.A. in English literature and creative writing and has taught them both at university level.
