TELOS - History of American Foreign Policy

America is a country that was forged from the smelter of war and diplomacy, and unlike its founders intended, it has not been able to stay out of the international spotlight for both intentional and unintentional reasons. From 1770 to modern day and along the way will cover topics such as American diplomacy, American wars of defense and expansion, the merits and pitfalls of intervention, and the outlook of America's place in the world over the next 50 years. The class will culminate and draw upon the aforementioned topics to explain how the formation of the United States contributed greatly to the modern understanding of international relations theory. We will be using David C. Hendrickson's Peace Pact as a primary source for the course.
