TELOS - America's Polarized Party System: Trends and Prospects  

How, when, and why did our party system become so polarized? Is our country as polarized as our politics? We’ll look at the dynamics of party politics past, present, and future. We’ll look at evidence from election returns, demographic trends, Congressional behavior the rise of new media, and anywhere else that will help shed light on contemporary politics.

Jacob Hurwitz
Professional: A.B.. Political Science, University of California, Berkeley. M.A., Ph.D, Political Science, Michigan State University. In the TELOS Program at Bellevue College I have taught “The Isms: Ideologies in America Today”, and “Our Polarized Party System: Trends and Prospects. I previously taught in Asia for Troy University's graduate program in International Relations; prior to that I taught Political Science for the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) in Asia; at North Carolina State University; and at Tel Aviv University. Between two careers in academia, I was CEO of a leading northwest retailer, managing its operations and expansion, prior to selling the company.

Personal: I have a life-long interest in entertainment, especially comedy, and have taught “The Films of Woody Allen” in Asia and for TELOS. I have performed as a ventriloquist since childhood, and recently came in first in the senior open-mic competition at the annual ventriloquist convention. I have taught “The Art of Ventriloquism Today” for TELOS.
