SLR and Interchangeable Lens Camera Operation and Photographic Composition

Gain complete control of your camera and learn new ways of seeing to enable you to create uniquely beautiful photographs and how to compose images that go beyond the normal photography “rules”. In this class you will learn how to use your camera’s manual and automatic controls and features and read the light and choose exposure settings to get the most from your lenses and filters. We will practice setting the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO by using a light meter and histogram and observe the effects on your images. We will learn how and when to select different white balance settings and how to make flash pictures look natural and understand the pros and cons of jpeg, RAW, TIFF, and DNG file formats, and the difference between the sRGB and Adobe 1998 Color Space. Internalize concepts that will feed and sustain your creative photography for years to come, as you incorporate fine art perspectives in composing your image. Each class includes extensive hands-on photography.

Required: Any camera w/ full manual capability (such as a dSLR or Mirrorless camera) plus your instruction manual and fresh batteries.
Dress for the weather, as the lessons may include photographing in the field.
