Medical Office Managers perform a wide range of duties that are imperative to the smooth operation of a variety of medical offices. Medical Office Manager duties can include updating patient files, filling out insurance forms, coordinating laboratory services, answering phones, ordering and maintaining medical supplies and equipment, and more. As the healthcare industry continues to expand, so does the need for Medical Office Managers. Your training will include medical terminology, medical billing and coding, and electronic health records. Students also complete a detailed course on Managing the Medical Office which covers a health care overview, leadership training, medical office organization, financial management, policies, procedures and compliance planning, managed care contracts, marketing, human resources, and government-required documentation.

This program will prepare you for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant/Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CMAA/CBCS) dual-certification exams offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) once all other eligibility requirements have been met. Upon successful completion, students will also be prepared to sit for the NHA Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS) exam. Students must schedule exams and select a testing location directly through NHA. Note: KSU serves as a testing location for the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist classroom-based certificate program only. Eligibility requirements can be found on the NHA website at www.nhanow.com.
