Facility coding (hospital coding) is one of the best-paying sectors of the coding profession. This course is designed for coders who wish to further develop their facility coding skills. This nationally recognized Advanced Hospital Coding Certificate covers advanced ICD-9 & CPT-4 medical coding procedures. You will be prepared to take the American Health Information Management Association's (AHIMA) official certification exam to become a Certified Coding Specialist (CSS). This course will utilize your existing knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare sciences. Your coding skills will be heightened and focused preparing you for employment testing, job performance, and successful completion of the CCS exam.
Prerequisite: Medical Billing and Coding Certificate (or equivalent experience). Students students should also have a high school diploma/GED and have a minimum of 2 years experience with: Medical Terminology; Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology; ICD-9-CM coding; and CPT-4 coding.
- Understand how health information travels within departments of a facility. List the types of healthcare professionals, both administrative and clerical.
- Learn the current coding and reporting requirements for inpatient services.
- Understand the differences between the hospital Inpatient and Outpatient Record, and identify outpatient record components.
- Understand reimbursement methodologies and documentation rules and regulations.
- Prepare for the Certified Coding Specialist (CSS) Exam.
