Paralegal - Overview of the Law  

Learn the principles of substantive and procedural law and review the functions of the judicial system, legislature, administrative agencies, law firms and legal departments in other firms. An emphasis is given to the role of the paralegal, including history and development of the profession, job responsibilities, prospects and personal characteristics for success.

Learning Objectives:

  • The student will be able to understand the organization and structure of the American Legal System.
  • The student will be able to learn how a law office or law department functions.
  • The student will be able to understand the role of the paralegal in the office.
  • The student will be able to understand the importance of legal ethics.

Note: Textbook, Introduction to the American Legal System by Schulz, Jung and Adams. Textbook is required and is available at KSU Center Bookstore.
