The Architectural and Engineering Feats of Europe’s Grandest Cathedrals
A lecture series on the evolution of architecture and engineering manifested in the world’s great cathedrals: the Romanesque period, St. Denis (first of the Gothic style), Reims and others.
Lectures are presented on DVD by Professor William Cook of the State University of New York, telling the story in three dimensional models and brilliant color motion photography. These expert lectures and course guides will serve as the basis of our own class explorations and discussions.
Led by Howard Cohen, who has personally studied each of the cathedrals, we will discuss the social, economic and intellectual context of this fascinating epoch. The level of expertise and engagement will make this exploration exciting and interesting.
Part II will be offered in the spring quarter, 2012.
