Personal Trainers evaluate individual fitness levels and develop customized plans to help clients achieve personal fitness goals. This four-month Personal Trainer Certificate includes a combination of classroom lecture topics and hands-on training in our onsite fitness center. Students will learn the basics of human anatomy, exercise physiology, applied kinesiology, and nutrition, plus the integrated fitness training model. Components of effective cardiorespiratory, resistance, and functional training, as well as guidelines for programming and progressions will be covered.
Students will also learn the principles of motivation, adherence, behavior change, and building client rapport. HIPAA security and privacy basics as it relates to the profession are also covered. As a final element of the program, students will develop a fully-customized exercise program for a prospective client. This certificate program will assist students in preparing for the American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) exam. Prior experience in the field is not required, but plan for extensive preparation and studies outside of class time. Tuition includes American Heart Association Heartsaver® CPR AED training. Exam fee and textbooks are additional. Textbooks are required at the first class meeting and are available at the KSU Center Bookstore.
Prerequisite: High School Diploma or equivalency. Complete Skills Assessment and submit Program Application. Working knowledge of computers and access to computer and Internet are required.
