Project Deliverables Seminar 15 PDUs
This is an elective course in the Project Management Certificate Program. Successful completion fulfills 15 Professional Development Units towards certificate completion or ongoing professional development.
NOTE: Participants are encouraged to bring laptops containing their projects or USB memory sticks to class.
This course is a hands-on seminar that focuses on developing key deliverables and artifacts relevant to the projects in a practical, scalable manner. The course will use the Project Management Body of Knowledge as a source document, and will draw on other standards such as the Washington State Department of Information Service’s Project Management Framework for examples, approaches and standards. Students will also be exposed to the evolving ISO standard for project management, which is currently in development by an international group of project managers. Emphasis will be placed on scaling project deliverables to meet the needs of very small, small, medium and large projects. Students will work in groups and individually to develop actual deliverables and deliverable expectation documents for sample projects, but may also bring actual projects to the class from work. Specific deliverables that will be addressed during the seminar include the Project Charter, Project Plan (including Risk Management Plan, Communications Plan, Quality Management Plan, etc.), Work Breakdown Structure, Project Schedule, design specifications, requirements documents and more.
Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Identify the importance of written plans and guidelines to the success of projects.
- Scale project deliverables to the size and complexity of a project.
- Customize project deliverables based on the unique requirements of their projects.
- Relate project deliverables to specific phases of the Project Management Life Cycle.
- Understand the need and techniques used to baseline project deliverables and institute version control.
- Set up a basic project management file structure.
- Develop key project deliverables, including the Project Charter, Project Plan, Schedule, etc.
Audience: Project Managers and other employees who participate as members of project teams. Successful completion of the following courses is strongly recommended prior taking this course:
