Sweep Rowing   NEW!

Learn the basics of team rowing in 8-oared shells during this 10-session novice class. The course will include shell-handling, safety, and basic rowing technique. This class teaches team rowing with one oar per person which is called “sweep” rowing. By the conclusion of the course, the rowers will be able to safely handle the boat under direction of the coxswain (the non-rowing crew member who is in charge). This course is the appropriate starting point for both rowers and coxswains.

People who register for this course must demonstrate the ability to remain afloat in a swimming pool for 10 minutes.

Classes will be held at the Olympia Area Rowing Association Boathouse, on 1022 Marine Drive NE, at Swantown Marina.
