Data Warehouse Design and Implementation

In this two day class you will discuss the essentials of data warehousing, using the Kimball guide to dimensional modeling. Data warehouses should use a different design than a regular transactional database. The large amount of data warehouse store and the different use patterns of business intelligence work more efficiently if the database reflects these characteristics. You will become familiar with those traits and learn how to design a database that your business intelligence teams can use for the best results.

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
  • Design a clean and efficient schema for a data warehouse
  • Create fact and dimension tables
  • De-normalize data to give more rapid and efficient access
  • Create a star or snowflake schema
  • Implement solutions to Slowly Changing Dimensions
  • Protect the custody of data using security plans
  • Implement a simple Extract – Transform – Load (ETL) strategy
Audience: Database Administrators and Developers

Recommended Prerequisites: at least one year’s experience using SQL Server.
