The Alluring and Mysterious Oud

The oud is one of the oldest stringed instruments in the world, and likely originated in Southern Mesopotamia. The popularity of the oud spread throughout the Middle East, Mediterranean, and Northern African regions, as well as into Central Asia, and it's unique warm sound is central to Middle Eastern musical traditions. Similar to a lute and an ancestor of the guitar, the oud produces a plucky, smooth, and mesmerizing melody that can stand alone or blend into an ensemble, and is used in genres spanning mystical, traditional, pop, and fusion. Journey with us to the other side of the world as you enjoy a performance and discussion by a talented musician who will demonstrate her passion for this instrument and the music it represents.
