Science and Technology  

These classes are designed to expose your children to different skills and ideas in science and computers.

1. CyberSummer Program
8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Lincoln School
Ages 7 - 12
Two-Week Sessions: July 10 - 21, July 24 - August 4, August 7 - August 18
Two weeks ($760) • Four weeks ($1,495)

In this activity-filled program students will learn to design their own websites with sounds, photos, movies, and colorful text. They will produce a claymation movie using stop motion software, or write and film their own commercials using iMovie. They will also learn green screening techniques and create a summer movie in Brookline Interactive Group’s professional television studio. Students will create their own games using drag and drop code with online programs like Scratch, experiment with some of the latest technologies and software, and leave with a copy of their summer projects. 3-D computer games including Minecraft, outdoor fun and field games, art time in the scene shop, and swimming will round out our varied schedule.

2. Eureka Science!
8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Brookline High School
Ages 9 - 13
One-Week Sessions: June 29 - July 7 (not meeting July 3 and 4), July 10 - 14, July 17 - 21, July 24 - 28
One week, ($370) • Two weeks, ($720)

I have it! Learn, gain understanding, and experience the world above, around, and below through active exploration and hands-on activities and projects. Weekly themes, such as meteorology, engineering, and biology, will guide us as we build weather stations, launch rockets, recreate ancient machines, and examine creatures big and small. Young scientists will enjoy experimenting, building models, playing games, and acting out ideas to discover how and why things work the way they do. Outdoor fun and activities, and swimming will be part of our daily program.

June 29-July 7: Megadisaster! Hurricanes, Earthquakes, and Volcanoes
July 10-14: Take Flight! Rockets, Airplanes, and Catapults
July 17-21: Your Neck of the Woods! The Ecology of Brookline
July 24-28: Tools of the Trade! Build Your Own Scientific Instruments

3. Computer Workshops
Combine summer fun with cool computer topics. Students ages 9-13 will enjoy individual and group projects at their level, and experiment with exciting technologies and software in a state-of-the-art computer lab. Programs might include WordPress, Scratch, iMovie, Garageband, and more!

Unified Arts Building, BIG Studios
Ages 9 - 13
One-week programs: $165
Scratch (July 24-28, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm) Use Scratch, a computer program developed at MIT, to develop animated characters and environments and create a game.
Video Production Basics (July 24-28, 1:00-4:30 pm) Get a crash course in all elements of video production. This program will teach you how to operate a camera, film footage both in a studio and out in the field, and even operate the control room for filming a TV program!
Make Your Own Website (July 31 - August 4, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm) Build a website that includes multiple pages with links, words, and pictures. You’ll choose a layout and theme that reflects topics that are important to you.
Podcasting (July 31 - August 4, 1:00-4:30 pm) Sharpen your presentation skills as you plan, script, and make a podcast. Learn to tell an interesting story, add musical interludes or some poetry, and record your podcast for friends or family to hear.
3D Design (August 7 - 11, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm) Explore 3D design software to learn the basics of architecture and industrial design by constructing models of buildings, cars, or an item from your imagination
Layout & Design (August 7 - 11, 1:00-4:30 pm) Create a multi-layered and multi faceted work of art using skills in photography, drawing, and Photoshop.
Basic Programming (August 14 - 18, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm) Learn programming to build graphics, animations, and interactive visualization for websites and other devices.
Green Screen (August 14 - 18, 1:00-4:30 pm) Express your ideas and stories in creative and unique ways using d.i.y. green screen technology to make colorful and flashy mini-movies.
