Program Description

This intensive program offered by is designed primarily for individuals seeking the most sought-after HR certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

Cleveland State University’s program has an outstanding record of participants passing the certification exams. Our school rates above the national average.

Who should take this course?

Our Human Resource certification preparation course is designed primarily for individuals seeking a PHR or SPHR certification.

Advancing your career. For those not seeking certification, the SHRM LS for PHR/SPHR course provides a comprehensive and accelerated option for professional development. Participants gain a generalist point of view, refresh key ideas and concepts, strengthen their understanding of core competencies and increase productivity.

This course is offered in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).The course investment includes all course materials but does not cover registration for the PHR or SPHR examinations.

*Early Bird Rate: To receive the Early Bird Rate, payment must be received in full by September 4, 2014.

Course fee includes six workbooks (SHRM LS), online access to SHRM's Partner Resource Central, two HRCI assessment exams, printed copy of instructional PowerPoint presentations, printed flashcards, a Certificate of Completion, meals and parking.

Participant Responsibilities

Exam Eligibility: It is the responsibility of the participant to determine his or her eligibility to take the PHR and/or SPHR. For more information on eligibility requirements, please visit http://www.hrci.org/exam-preparation/experience-and-education

Attendance: While participants are expected to attend all eight sessions, attendance at five of the six module-specific sessions will be required in order to receive the Certificate of Completion for the CSU SHRM LS. Many employers require this certificate for reimbursement.

Certification Information

If you have questions on the certification process or wish to register for the PHR or SPHR exam, please visit www.hrci.org or call 800.283.7476. The deadline to apply to the exam is October 17, 2014.

Refund Policy

Registrants who cancel will receive a refund less a $100 processing fee plus the cost of materials if we receive written notification by September 23. No refunds will be issued after September 23, 2014.

SHRM Learning Re-enrollment Options

  • If a SHRM LS for PHR/SHPR participant does not have success on the certification exam immediately following enrollment in SHRM LS for PHR/SPHR, the participant may attend the next SHRM LS session at a reduced rate of $295 with the permission of the Professional Development Center. The participant will not receive a new set of SHRM LS for PHR/SPHR books. However, his or her PartnerResource access will remain in effect from the previous session. The participant will receive access to two additional HRCI assessment exams, and other materials provided by the instructors during the sessions as well as parking and meals, as applicable.Therefore, this option is only available to those who have registered in our SHRM LS for PHR/SPHR program the previous semester.
  • If a SHRM LS for PHR/SPHR participant chooses not to sit for the certification exam immediately following enrollment in SHRM LS for PHR/SPHR and informs the Professional Development Center in writing of his or her decision by the end of that testing window (January 31 or June 30), the participant may be eligible to attend the next SHRM LS for PHR/SPHR session at a reduced rate of $295 with the permission of the Professional Development Center. The participant will not receive a new set of SHRM LS for PHR/SPHR books. However, his or her PartnerResource access will remain in effect from the previous session. The participant will receive access to two additional HRCI assessment exams, and other materials provided by the instructors during the sessions as well as parking and meals, as applicable. Therefore, this option is only available to those who have registered in our SHRM LS for PHR/SPHR program the previous semester.
