Work in wood and stone and duplicate your work with molds. Discover what makes good design and learn about tools and methods to create those designs. Use of tools and all materials provided.
This course is divided into three modules. The first is wood carving: learn proper use of tools and learn the fundamentals of interesting design for wood sculpture. Receive individualized and group instruction and create a wood carving using appropriate finishing techniques.
The second module expands your carving skills to working with stone: with tools specific to stone carving and approximately 20 pounds of stone you will take a 2D design and carve the stone into a 3D work. You will discover how to effectively use power tools for carving larger scale pieces and how to properly finish stone to look beautiful for years to come.
Finally, in the third module, you will take one of your wood/stone pieces and reproduce that piece using mold-making techniques. You will use a plaster mother mold to create a rubber mold of your piece. Mold-making will expand your creativity into different mediums and you will explore different finishes while reproducing a work of 3D art.
