Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: Ground School and Flight Training

This dynamic course will address the various demands confronting law enforcement’s use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) during high and medium risk operations. Hands-on exercises and group scenarios geared towards safely completing the mission will enable you to immediately apply the concepts you learn during the lecture portion of class.

After a thorough introduction to the history, philosophy and justification for UAVs in law enforcement applications, we will focus on safely working within the National Airspace System (NAS) and the strict Federal Regulations that will govern your daily operations. You will learn proper communication protocols with the local FAA tower, how to file necessary NOTAMS, proper procedures to request Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), and various mandated administrative functions.

Integrated ground instruction will cover controls, avionics, batteries, safety and procedures, systems, maintenance, setup, FAA regulations and compliance, records and log books, aircraft registration and markings. You will learn how to use the UAVs to assist with crash reconstructions, crime scene and disaster photography as well as hostage and high risk scenarios.
