Learning Express - Niagara Falls (now online)

Announcement: April 14, 2020:
In order to reflect CUNY's decision to hold distance-learning courses through the summer, Learning Across America will be continuing in an online format through June 30, 2020. Any classes posted through June 30, 2020 will not be held in person or on location. Online courses will be held for the same number of credits as our in-person option. Please email us with questions at learningacrossamerica@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Formed over 12,000 years ago, Niagara Falls lies between the United States and Canada. Consisting of three awe-inspiring waterfalls, Niagara Falls is sacred to Native Americans, who believed the sound of the waterfall was the voice of the mighty spirit of the waters.

Classroom sessions will focus on local history, customs, and traditions. Students will also explore the many sites, sounds and attractions this amazing area has to offer.

An Update on this Semester's LEX Niagara Falls course:
The coronavirus pandemic continues to impact just about every phase of daily life, with government actively discouraging non-essential travel and rendering New York the state with the largest outbreak in the nation (a state of emergency is in effect in Western New York, home to Buffalo). Your safety is our primary concern. Therefore, Learning Across America has made the decision to convert the Niagara Falls Learning Express course into an online class.

Q: Now that class will no longer take place in Niagara Falls, will I still earn 36 hours of educational credit?

A: Yes, you will as we have chosen to convert the Niagara Falls course into a live online format. Using this format, students can still attend class from their laptop, tablet, or smartphone at the convenience of their own home. We understand the disappointment of not being able to visit the city of your study, but our Learning Across America teachers have worked very hard to make the curriculum engaging and rich in this new format, and students have been responding very positively!

If you're already signed up for this course, you will receive an email from us with more information.

Your online course will consist of a pre-assignment, independent coursework and final assignment as well as live online class sessions with your teacher/other au pairs at the following times:

Saturday, April 25: 10am-1pm (live online class session)
Sunday, April 26: 10am-1pm & 6:30pm-9:30pm (live online class session)
(Times above listed in Eastern Time. Click here for more details.)

Educational Credits:

Upon successful completion of the course, students earn 36 credit hours.

In order to earn credit for the course, students must complete a pre-assignment (emailed the week before class), all classwork, and a final project. The final project will be assigned during class and must be submitted via email one week following the last day of class. Certificates of completion are awarded after final projects are submitted and graded.

Cancellation Policy for the Learning Express program is necessarily different from other Learning Across America courses. For a full refund, students who have registered for class with accommodations must cancel 31 days before the first class date by emailing BMCC at learningacrossamerica@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Please note: the updated online schedule for LEX Niagara Falls (originally in June) will be: Saturday, April 25: 10am-1pm (live online class session) and Sunday, April 26: 10am-1pm & 6:30pm-9:30pm (live online class sessions)
