From Brothels to Concert Halls: the Music of Brahms

Johannes Brahms was such a good pianist at age 12 that his parents sent him to earn money playing in Hamburg’s bars and brothels. By age 20, his brilliant compositions had him hailed as the successor to Bach and Beethoven. For half of each class, we will listen to Teaching Company CDs about Brahms’ life and music. The other half will be discussion and music listening. Limit: 25 Karl Willson, music connoisseur, OLLI member Tuesdays, March 20–May 8, 10–11:30 a.m. Unity Unitarian Church, 732 Holly Ave, St. Paul
