Jane Austen and Her Influences  

This course will focus on Jane Austen’s earliest novels (Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility. We will take a look at Austen’s gothic inspirations as well as her more traditional influences via the Romantic poetry mentioned in Sense and Sensibility. Recommended texts: The Castle of Wolfenbach ($14.95), Northanger Abbey ($6.95), and Sense and Sensibility ($8.95). Candice Wuehle is a graduate student at the University of Minnesota. Her research focuses largely on the women writers who influenced Jane Austen.
