A Greener Indigo   

A Greener Indigo: A hands on Indigo dye workshop. Barbara Shapiro 1 – 4pm June 8, 15 and 22 at the Main campus. Explore the magic and mystery of indigo, one of the oldest and most influential dyes. Learn the widespread historical, economic and cultural ramifications of indigo’s long story. Examine indigo dyed objects from around the world reflecting cultural idiosyncrasies and universal attributes. Create an indigo dye bath using a simple ecological formula and explore dyeing procedures and resist techniques and printing or painting with thickened indigo. Sample the dye on different fabrics using a non-toxic “green” formula suitable for the home studio. Dye yarn or fabric for personal projects. Create several lovely “sustainable” indigo dyed objects as you become comfortable using this most magical of dyes.
