Exploring the Presidio

This course examines the many facets of this newest U.S. Federal Park located at the North End of the City of San Francisco, near the Golden Gate Bridge. The course will include a review of the earliest Spanish settlement in 1776 and the development of a military base to protect the entrance to the Bay. Current plans will be discussed. The classes will meet at the Presidio and involve walking different areas of interest. Guests from the Presidio Trust and Natural Park Service will join us on some walks to provide more information. The beginning walks will be on flat land. Later walks will be both flat land and some hills. The longest walk will cover about 2 miles.
