American Politics: What Does the Future Hold? / Gerard Heather This course will examine the 2014 mid-term election in the context of the trajectories of both parties and the policy implications of changes in the House or Senate. In addition, the course will examine the possible implications for the 2016 Presidential campaigns. Topics will include the consequences of demographic trends in the electorate, the low poll numbers for the President and the general national disgust with the Federal Government. Finally, we will address the patchwork of state politics and policies and their impact on the ability of either party to govern effectively. About the Instructor: Gerard Heather, Professor Emeritus, SF State, received his doctor of philosophy from Syracuse University in 1972. He taught at SF State from 1969 - 2008, and is a former chair of the Political Science Department at SF State. He was also a visiting professor at the University Lancaster, U.K. 1972-73, and visiting professor at the University of Amsterdam 1995, 1998.
