Modern Cosmology: A Brief Survey
Come take a look at the basics of modern cosmology, including the Big Bang Theory, the expansion of the Universe, the Microwave Background Radiation, the formation of the light elements, the formation of structure in the early Universe, and the inflationary hypothesis. Along the way the class will examine the dark matter and dark energy problems and see what the future of cosmological research holds. There will be almost no mathematics in the class (just a couple of algebraic equations) and, although a text is not required, a good book to read before the course is The Alpha and the Omega by Charles Seife.
