Thomas Wolfe's "Look Homeward, Angel": A Reexamination

On October 28, 1919, Charles Scribner's Sons published "Look Homeward, Angel" the first novel of Thomas Wolfe. Since its publication, many writers have acknowledged the inspiration they found in Wolfe's writing. Wolfe held a place in the pantheon of the twentieth century American novelists such as Faulkner, Hemingway, and Fitzgerald, but, although the novel was adapted to a successful Broadway play and his relationship with his friend and editor Maxwell Perkins was the subject of a recent film "Genius," his literary reputation appears to have fallen into a decline.
