Inside the Dr. Horace Mann Bond Exhibit
Jason Maris and Daniele Bernstein will present an overview of the 80-photograph collection from his study, Education of the Negro: a photographic study by Dr. Horace Mann Bond, which is on display at Hargrett Library through March 2019. Dr. Horace Mann Bond, social science researcher, historian and father of the late Julian Bond, participated in a field study of more than 700 schools and photographed the educational experiences of close to 10,000 students. The study led to the creation of over 5,000 schools for blacks in the south.
