Executive-Legislative Relations in Comparative Perspective
This course examines the different varieties of executive-legislative relations observed in the world’s democracies, including the evolution of scholarship on this topic from the perceived “dangers” of presidential democracy, to the additional scholarship that discusses parliamentary and semi-presidential democracy. It will also emphasize the importance of including some of the world’s newest democracies in discussions about the relationships between legislatures and executives, and includes examples from Europe, Latin America, and African democracies.
