Envision Athens: Our Community, Our Future

Home to the University of Georgia, Athens-Clarke County benefits from its position as a university town. However, the community is in transition, with a decline in manufacturing and a poverty rate of 36%. In Fall 2016, community partners initiated a vision and strategic action planning process—Envision Athens. At its core was an exemplary public outreach effort that leveraged institutional capacity and grassroots passion to bring over 1,600 community members together through nearly 60 engagement opportunities that generated nearly 9,000 ideas for the future.
