The Scientific Revolution: Personalities and Paradigms

In just over one hundred years - from 1543 to 1687 - a series of great thinkers transformed the way we think about nature - and, in doing so, laid the intellectual foundation for modern society. Happily, for us, the key figures in the Scientific Revolution - Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Descartes, Bacon, Newton, etc. - were also wonderfully eccentric individuals! This course will explore their "distinctive" personalities as well as relishing the beauty and excitement of their transformative ideas.
