Athens Symphony Orchestra: A History and a Few Stories
This class will focus on the development of what has become one of the finest symphony orchestras in the State of Georgia. While many community orchestras have failed in recent years, the ASO has flourished. This amateur musical organization began under the direction of Albert Ligotti in the late 1970s. From humble beginnings, it now provides four concerts per year, with annual attendance of approximately 8,000. The class will trace the history of the ASO and the leadership and community factors that have led to its success.
