Why I Miss the Cold War

The class takes a nostalgic look at the Cold War period characterized by a bipolar global system with the U.S. and its allies pitted against the Soviet Union and its allies. The U.S. was embroiled in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, survived the Cuban missile crisis, and the Soviet Union experienced its own Vietnam when it occupied Afghanistan. It seemed a time of ever more frightening threats. So why regard the Cold War with nostalgia? The class attempts to answer the question by comparing the Cold War period to the present global system.
