Getting into college today is competitive—even with good grades. Many students don't realize that most colleges accept the best score from either the SAT or the ACT for admission. Each test is different, and many students find that the testing strategy of the ACT best reflects their skills. Some research indicates that the ACT is a better predictor of long-term student success in college. So why not choose the test that mirrors YOUR best? The ACT test includes over 200 multiple-choice questions. The exam takes about four hours to complete. In the U.S., the ACT is administered on five national test dates in October, December, February, April and June.
Verbal prep will cover grammar and sentence corrections, writing style for each type of essay, and reading comprehension and vocabulary for both tests. The reading sections are substantially different on each test, and these comparisons will be highlighted.
The Math and Science sections will feature two concepts to increase student scores. First, a refresher in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2 and a portion of Trigonometry will help students take ownership of these subjects. Students will practice test-taking tips to help increase their speed.
The Science section involves reading technical texts that include interpretation of graphs, charts, tables, and research summaries. No prior specific science knowledge is necessary to score well in this section.
