COMPETENT PERSON FOR CAVE-IN PROTECTION
State and federal regulations require a Competent Person to be present on every job site where the earth is opened and a person enters to do work. This includes sewer and water line installation and repair, utility work, road and other construction. The Competent Person requirement is met by understanding the rules, applying safety requirements and having the authority on the job to implement the program. Participants will learn the most recent Federal OSHA and State Department of Labor and Industry excavation, trenching and shoring regulations. Participants will observe demonstrations and practice making visual observations and performing manual tests to accurately determine soil types. They will gain vital insights into suitable methods to protect workers and will use standards and tables to select and apply protective equipment. They will become informed about traffic control, confined spaces, underground utilities, water, falling loads, atmosphere and other hazards related to excavations. 1.4 CEU.
