Wilderness First Aid Basics - Carson City  

Wilderness First Aid Basics - using the American Red Cross curriculum This course meets the requirements of the Civil Air Patrol, American Camping Association, Boy Scouts of America, Whitewater Guides, National Parks Service, Mountain Rescue, Backcountry Guides, National Ski Patrol and many search and rescue organizations. Course includes 2 year certificate upon successful completion. Course features - being prepared, mentally and physically. Planning in advance of the emergency and know how to respond. Assessment of of injuries, prioritizing care, basic and more advanced first aid techniques, preventing disease transmission, evacuation techniques, how to obtain help and when to leave to go in search of help. Experience Advanced first aid through scenarios and simulated rescue outside the classroom. Learn how to move someone by means of clothes drag, two man seat carry, foot drag, log roll - fireman's carry. Protecting the patient, creating shelter. Learn what your first aid kit should hold, how to take care of bleeding wounds - visible and not visible, tourniquets, impaled objects, head and spinal injuries, fractures and much more. This is an adult class that is also open to students aged 14 - 17. To register someone under the age of 18 please call the WNC Community Education Office at 445-4268. Office hours are Tuesday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm.
