TELOS - Baseball as History
NEW!
Explore how baseball developed into the National Pastime, becoming synonymous with American culture as it rode the cusp of productivity gains to become both a metaphor for and emblematic of societal upheavals including cultural assimilation, Manifest Destiny and American Exceptionalism. We will examine baseball’s pivotal role in segregation and Civil Rights while being mindful of baseball’s unparalleled statistical depth and its colorful personalities who left us a legacy handed down through generations.
Jay Cadwell
Professional Bio: Education: MBA in Finance and Accounting Cornell University; BA in Genetics and Ecology Cornell University.
Personal Bio: I primarily grew up just outside of Cooperstown, NY, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. As a young boy, the first professional baseball player I met was Ty Cobb, a chance encounter that added to my already strong interest in baseball. I have maintained that interest throughout my life and have participated in baseball art exhibits or given speeches on baseball history from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina. I am close to finishing my first book on baseball history and art and hope to have it published by Christmas 2015.
