TELOS - Poetry about Art
NEW!
This class will explore ekphrastic poetry, a fancy word that simply refers to poems inspired by a work of visual art. We will look at the history of the genre and enjoy many poems of this type. We will also look at the art which each poem addresses. Laura Dillaway Professional Bio: Education: MS in Engineering, UCLA; BA in Math, UCRiverside; Certificate in Museum Studies, UW. 1972 - 1988: Career in Military Consulting and Policy Analysis. 1990 - present: Community Volunteer, including being a docent at the Bellevue Arts Museum since 2003, and member of the Board of Trustees of the Bellevue Arts Museum as of Nov. 1, 2012.
Personal Bio: In addition to my passion for the visual arts and art history, I have loved poetry and literature since I was a teenager. I have a special interest in epic poetry, hence the classes I've taught at Telos on Paradise Lost, Gilgamesh and The Iliad. I have lived in western Washington since the early 1980s and have two adult children. My interests, besides those obvious from my bio, include traveling, reading and hiking.
