Analyzing Geographic Information Systems   NEW!

GIS spatial analysis tools can help to reveal potential solutions to business questions, improve organizational record keeping and communication. In this class you will learn to analyze data relationships by transforming and applying statistical techniques to real world problems using raster and vector data.

Use ArcMap tools to dynamically display your data analysis results, explore geo-coding processes and review metadata editing techniques. Explore how to share your GIS work by packaging your maps and data with ArcGIS.

This is the third recommended course for the Geographic Information Systems certificate.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
  • Generate basic raster calculations
  • Combining vector and raster data into analyses
  • Geocoding address data
  • Perform geo-statistical analysis with your data
  • Generate surface density and slope raster files for use in nearness and cluster analysis
  • Create and work with temporal data to map change over time
  • Understand key considerations in how, when and if you should use data for analysis and map creation (best practices)
  • Create FGDC compliant metadata (documentation of your data)
Course Prerequisites: Completion of Learning GIS & Applying GIS or equivalent knowledge or work experience with GIS. Basic experience with Microsoft Windows software for basic file management and browsing. (e.g. Excel)

Intended Audience: Anyone responsible for using ArcGIS Desktop that has intermediate skills and experience with the software.
