In this 5-week course, we will build on the concepts we learned about in Intro to Script Supervising to develop your skills as a script supervisor. After completion of this course, you will be able to walk onto any feature length narrative or short film and perform the duties of a Script Supervisor. You will learn to:
- Break down a script for shooting: calculating total scene and page counts, deciding the story chronology, and familiarizing yourself with all the plot points.
- Prepare script notes and lined script for post production
- Organize slate numbers while working closely with camera and sound departments
- Submit Editor’s Logs and DPRs to Production at the end of each day
- Learn to work on set with the Director, Cast and Crew regarding continuity, screen direction, what’s owed/covered, matching dialogue and suggested coverage.
- Work on other types of filmed projects
Prerequisites for this course: Intro to Script Supervising
Required Skills and Resources:
- An intermediate knowledge of film terminology and procedures
- A computer with internet connection
- A smartphone with camera and internet capability
- A basic knowledge of spreadsheets (Excel/Sheets)
- An aptitude or interest in list-making, logic and organization
About the instructor:
Eve’s script supervising credits include The Good Guys, The Chosen, Salem, Dusk Till Dawn, Prison Break, Dallas (2012), Queen of the South, 1883, Bass Reeves, and Landman. She has worked with directors such as Jonathan Frakes, Richard Linklater, Tim Matheson, Greg Nicotero, Peter Weller, Timothy Busfield and Jennifer Lynch. In 2019, she directed the feature film Lily is Here, and the short film 2Ships.
Outside of her work on specific projects, she also developed a digital script supervising program, has served on the board of Women in Film/Dallas, Texas Association of Film/Tape Professionals and Women In Communication, Inc./Dallas, and has given presentations on script supervising at KD College, UT Arlington and SXSW, and is a card carrying member of IATSE Local 484.
