Current Issues Involving the Fourth and Fifth Amendments

"Current Issues: 4th & 5th Amendments - Did you know that currently the Supreme Court gives more protection again a search of your cell phone than it does for your house or even your person? Learn about how the court is struggling to apply established 4th and 5th amendment legal theory to new technologies. We will consider when the government can compel a person to access a computer or mobile device that is using protective technology, such as passwords, fingerprints, face recognition, and encryption. We will also consider when Miranda warnings are required and the kinds of techniques that law enforcement can use to legally elicit witness statements. Come prepared to discuss, learn, and have some fun!
