Women of Vision: To Go Where No One Had Gone Before (incl lunch) - Glenridge

Gloria Vanderbilt Whitney, Peggy Guggenheim, and Dominique de Menil took the art of amassing a collection of outstanding art to a place in art history no one had gone before. In different ways, as a consequence of their upbringing and taste in fine art, each assembled collections of important 19th- and 20th-century art that, due to their visual acuity, have stood the test of time and changing tastes. Their wealth came from very different sources, but their profound insights into the “advanced” art of their time has similarities. Quality is hard to define, but in art it is plain to see. This series of Powerpoint seminars will shed light on the life of these remarkable women and what their collections tell us about them.
