Music with Joan: The Natural Environment and The Composer

Love of nature has been of prime interest to composers throughout the great musical eras. In the Baroque Era Viivaldi wrote descriptive music based on ‘The Four Seasons’ and Handel wrote his ‘Water Music Suite.’ In the Classical Era Beethoven wrote his wonderful “Pastoral Symphony’ as his hymn to nature. And in the Romantic Era the surge of unleashed expressions of feelings gave rise to Composers’ interpretations of nature in such pieces as Berlioz’s ‘In the Field’ from Symphonie Fantastique, Smetana’s ‘Moldau’ and DeBussey’s ‘La Mer.’ Join Joan Rubenstein, Music History and Appreciation teacher for beautiful music followed by lively discussion.
