In this workshop, we use the writing process to open ourselves to the richness of both our inner and outer experience, to help us turn our attention to the magic and profundity of our embodied world. Working from a variety of prompts (words, images, objects), we attune ever more deeply to our experience and imagination, accessing our inherent intuitive wisdom and creativity. In this safe, playful space, we follow a “free-writing” process, writing without editing for a set amount of time. The words may take varying forms: narrative description, poetry, or something totally surprising. While personal stories may arise, the workshop is not focused on memoir or what we already know. Rather, the point is to explore, to go into the imaginal realm and discover what it is that wants to emerge or come through.
These sessions are suitable for everyone (“writers” and “non-writers” alike) since they are focused on experience rather than product or technique. We listen to/witness the words of the others in our group, not with the intent of critiquing what they have done, but rather to share and reflect back to each other what we discover and to fully understand what imaginative, nuanced, and wise people we are. This process works very well on Zoom, as participants may comfortably situate themselves for writing, and visual images that fill the screen feel surprisingly immediate.
