Chinese I - Beginner

This will be a beginner course for students with various reasons for learning Mandarin Chinese. Although most people believe learning Chinese is an almost impossible task, this class will provide a fun atmosphere where students can gain confidence in a wide variety of practical skills in speaking, reading, listening, writing, and grammar. Students will be exposed to language about people and family, numbers, dates and times, things in the home, describing things, and learning colors, as well as other everyday usage. Less emphasis will be placed on learning the somewhat complicated Chinese characters; instead, we will primarily utilize the more accessible Romanized “pinyin” writing and reading system.
