Charles Marshall grew up and went to college in Japan. Japanese and English are his primary languages. He has been teaching both introductory and intermediate level Japanese classes at ACE for seven years. These are conversational classes aimed at giving you the ability to speak and understand spoken Japanese. Although a few references will be made to the Japanese writing system all instruction will be in the alphabetical letters you are used to in English. Japanese is a language that developed with little or no influence from European languages such as English and therefore it can give you some quite different ways to think about how the world is organized. Some of my students want to learn in preparation for going to Japan while others are just interested in stretching their minds. *Please have a composition book and pen or pencil ready.
