Bookbinding

Learn the exciting way of creating a hard-bound book from scratch using some recycled materials. You will learn how to create your own book cloth to cover your books as well as matching headbands to give that professional look to your book. We will discuss the anatomy of a book and you will understand the process of stitching your pages to together. Use your book as a journal, diary or even an art book depending on the pages you choose to use. This is an exciting three (3) class journey into the art of bookbinding where you will complete a hard-bound book that you would be proud to show-off.

Supply List: PVA Glue or Elmer’s Glue-All (NOT School Glue) Piece of pre-washed and ironed cotton fabric of your choice (for the book cover so make it count). This can be from clothing bought from the fabric store. A fat quarter is plenty (18” x 22”). Bone Folder Awl (or other sharp piercing tool to get through multiple pieces of paper) Large eye needle Ruler Scissors or Xacto knife (with cutting surface) Pencil Iron Mouse Pad One full sheet of tissue paper A piece of fusible web from the fabric store the size of your fabric Large binder clips Recycled bookboard (an old book, thick chipboard, etc.) Extra will be on-site if you can’t get it A variety of papers for your pages (maps, floor plans, patterns)
