Sewing & Quilting

In a day and age of mass production, isn’t it nice to slow down sometimes and make something by hand? If you’ve ever admired a hand-made garment or baby quilt and thought you’d like to try your hand at making one of your own, we’ve got just the ticket: Our sewing and quilting classes are small, instructors are patient, and the results are so worth it! Make a special heirloom to pass down through the generations.

Supplies to bring: Fabric shears, pins & pincushion, seam/sewing gauge, tape measure, and seam ripper. If you have your own machine, please bring it so you can learn exactly how your machine works.

Recommended textbook: First Time Quiltmaking: Learning to Quilt in Six Easy Lessons. 1st or 2nd edition (available from Amazon). Supplies: Rotary cutter with sharp blades, self-healing cutting mat (at least 18” on one side), 6.5”x6.5” rotary cutting ruler, 6”x24” rotary cutting ruler, seam ripper, fabric scissors, sewing clips, straight pins, hand-sewing needle, quilter’s safety pins (optional), blue painters tape. Please do not purchase fabric, thread and batting until after the first class. Bring supplies and sewing machine (if you choose to use your own) for the remaining classes.

Students must have knowledge of sewing. In the first class, fundamentals of quilting will be discussed, and fabric requirements will be determined. The remaining classes will be spent piecing and finishing the quilts.
