Nostalgic for your tutu-wearing days as an aspiring ballerina? Want to try a plie or two and a pas de deux again? Or perhaps you're looking for a conditioning and stretching exercise class with the panache of ballet but have never taken a dance class.
"Come dance with me," invites Robert de Warren, Artistic Director Emeritus and retired Director of the Sarasota Ballet. Come Dance With Me is a gentle workout designed to keep you fit, incorporating the various styles and principles of ballet training that de Warren has honed over more than 60 years as a career choreographer in various artistic roles with world-famous ballet companies. "No matter your age or experience, this ballet class encourages balance, grace, and flexibility while doing it in a relaxed and no-pressure atmosphere," de Warren says. "This is definitely not your typical barre class because it's fun."
This series of classes is designed to encourage continuing activity and wellness for adults and seniors through gentle movement, thus preserving vitality, as evidenced by de Warren, who is 91. Throughout the hour-long class of dance movements and demonstrations, de Warren shares anecdotes and information about the history of dance and his own dance history, which adds a very special dimension to the class.
