Handbuilding is an excellent introduction into the art of ceramics. This course is tailored to beginners and will expose students to a variety of handbuilding techniques, including pinch pots, coil construction and slap building. We will explore surfacing techniques like using slip decoration and glazing. Students will gain foundational ceramic skills with an emphasis on creating functional pottery.
All ages welcome, students 12 and younger should be accompanied by an adult.
Students will coordinate to pick-up a supply kit at Arbutus, 610 4th Ave E, before the start of class.
The cost of the kit is covered in the class fee and includes 12.5 lbs of clay, several ceramics hand tools, slip and glaze, and a bisque and glaze firing.
