This class is for the Intermediate student. You must have knowledge of direct warping and balanced weave and hem stitching. We will use two pick-up sticks to create the table runner, in addition to the heddle and shuttle. The pick-up sticks create a 3rd and 4th shed for texture. Once the table runner is off the loom, you will complete your project with a lattice woven fringe for a fun finish.
The recommended fiber for the table runner is a sport weight or light DK weight yarn in 100% cotton. If you use wool or acrylic, you will not achieve the finish intended, though it will still be wonderful! You can use the same color for the warp & weft or different colors for each. If you use one color, you will need approximately 350 yards. If you want two colors, you will need 250 yards for warp & 100 yards for weft. It should cost about $25 for the yarn, and your instructor will send information about where to purchase the yarn needed once you are registered.
Students need to bring: Yarn (see above description), scissors, tapestry needle, and a tape measure.
Open to students ages 18 and older.
Appropriate for intermediate skill levels, or if you have taken the Beginning Rigid Heddle Weaving course.
Classes will be at Arbutus Folk School, 610 4th Ave E, Olympia.
