Ages 16 and older
In this continuing rigid heddle weaving course, students will learn a fun technique and make a textured “waffle weave” structure combined with plain weave for a nice absorbent & textured towel. You make the “waffle” by using a pick-up stick in two different positions to give you both a warp & weft face intermittent weave structure.
We will use 100% cotton for the towel. You can use one or two colors; the choice is yours. I recommend either an 8/4 cotton or a sport weight cotton fiber. You will need approximately 350 yards of cotton. 8/4 cotton cones can be purchased at Ewe & I in Chehalis. Cotton can be purchased at The Black Sheep Yarn Boutique or Our Local Yarn Shop (OLYS), both in Olympia. Mention your purchase is for a class at Arbutus to receive a 10% discount on your purchase at any of these stores.
This course is appropriate for students who have a basic knowledge of weaving and warping a loom. You will also need to bring tapestry needles and scissors to class.
Students must bring approximately 350 yards of 8/4 cotton or sport weight cotton, tapestry needles and scissors. Your instructor will also email you additional information.
Course takes place at Arbutus Folk School, 610 4th Ave E, Olympia. Downtown parking is free on weekends.
